BIOGRAPHY
When the head of the legendary US-Punk-Rock-Magazine
“Maximum Rock’n’Roll” Tim
Yohannan, severely marked by cancer in the winter
of 1998, decreed on his deathbed, that the German
Hardcore-Punk-quartet “Superfan” whose
first single-release top-ranked his definitely last
charts of the year should also find continuous recognition
in the MRR in the future for the time after his
death, he couldn’t possibly know that this
future wouldn’t last for long. Superfan-drummer
Bernie Moon soon followed the journalist by falling
– or jumping – out of his Frankfurt
flat after severe abuse of alcohol. The band without
Bernie? That was out of the question! While SF-singer
Stefan Mattes concentrated on his second passion,
the drawing of whimsical comics (some of which you
might know through Hazelwood-releases, e.g. Mardi-Gras.bb),
and while guitar-player Philipp Karger focused on
artwork, designing among others the whole palette
of Hazelwood-Vinyl-Plastics-covers, Bass-player
York Bandow founded the artist community LOW500
with his old crony Sascha Beck, the singer-songwriter
who had just returned from London. Essayist and
globetrotter Jean Geiler, art-academist Vincent
Spielmann and a friend from the old days, the talented
painter Martin Kammerer completed the charming alliance
aloft the strange Lord’s house in Frankfurt.
They drafted and modeled, studied and argued, philosophized,
and of course they played music as described –
the latter they did in between the prayers as not
to irritate the Muslim community downstairs. FOR
