  FIVE DAYS OF FLAT WATER
 HAZ 57

Welcome to Tinseltown. Welcome to one of those wonderfully foolish pool-parties, sometime in the 1950's, somewhere between Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills and Sun Valley. Dashing servers offer Champagne from salvers. The water ballet draws stars in the pool. An eccentric Soiree guzzles the warm Pacific air which climbs up refreshingly from Venice Beach to the Hollywood Hills. The band jams on the tunes of the time and flirts impishly from the edge of the pool with high-strung, upper crust wives. The guests are not aware, however, that the band by the pool is from a totally different decade and that these very musicians that play there also make records in the 21st Century, a good 5,000 miles away from Hollywood, with bands such as The Notwist, Wir sind Helden, Boozoo Bajou, and The Robocop Kraus. [sic]

With the maniacal, heedless and unembarrassed "Five Days of Flat Water", John Q Irritated brings to the allegorical screen a celestial absurdity that has to be heard to be believed. As in a really good film, the only remaining reality is the plush of the theater chair. Who is the man whose 2005 debut album, "In reply to your letter of June 29th", received the
critique that said: "from time to time one gets a creeping suspicion, that perhaps Dr. John, The Meters and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band played on the recording? In any case, they must have been there in spirit."
