BIOGRAPHY
With a little luck when the hustle and bustle of commuters and travellers in Hamburg’s central station is lost to the night and the relentless comings and goings of the trains finally ceases, you may hear them. From deep within the bowels of the building, out of the niches and shafts, through the pipes and drains, they wind their way into the hysterical hush of the great hall. A lonely tramp, somehow managing to escape the clasp of the night watchman, believes he’s hearing some concentina kobold filling the station of this hanse metropole with underground music.. but no, it’s Hazelwood’s outstanding newcomer, Hoo Doo Girl.
Silky makes ends meet selling her pop-art pictures. When she’s not busy painting away in her subterranean gallery , you can sometimes hear her high-speed zydeco squeeze-box wafting up through the grates while she rehearses with her other band ‘The Watzloves’ (Voodoo Rhythm Records). Music journalist, Susie had to learn piano when she was a child but as soon as enough pocket money was saved, she swapped the keys for sticks and strings. With the band, ‘DM Bob and the Deficits’, she released several records on the US cult label ‚Crypt‘. Peta works as a music producer in Hamburg’s Soundgarden Studios and can probably play every instrument lying around in the catacombed, underground garage beneath the central station that Hoo Doo Girl call their practise room. She earned her merits playing bass and singing with the all-girls pop band ‘Die Braut haut ins Auge’ (BMG), followed by the punk band ‘Oma Hans’ (Schiffen Records) and as the singer & mandoline player of the country band ‘COW’ (Trikont).
If you wanted to compile somehting like an album of recent rock history, these three would be a great combination but ‚Germany’s most dangerous gals’ as they have been called by the uncrowned King and Keeper of the international rock’n’ roll scene Reverend Beat-man, are far from being just part of the story. No, they have chosen to add another exciting chapter to the book.
The idea for Hoo Doo Girl came about 7 years ago when COW, the Watzloves and the Deficits played at the same venue. It was going to be a band in the style of the 60’s girl groups.. the Shirelles or the Dixie Cups. But it wasn’t until 2005 that they got together and began to play. „The first time, I heard Hoo Doo Girl live, I was simply flabbergasted – hadn’t been rocked like this since I left New Orleans - wow! - What taste! - What style! - What energy!. The set never let up with their expert blend of soul, funk, and down home rock originals. This band will shake you up! If this don' t move and groove you then it’s time to give it up“, judged DM Bob, musician, producer (King Khan & BBQ) and born Southener. ‚This band showed me what groove is... I’m switching to recorder’ added Thomas Wenzel (multi-instrumentalist from Die Sterne/Die Goldenen Zitronen) no less impressed.
